In short
- Measure first
- Stand on paper, mark heel to longest toe, and measure in cm in the evening when feet are largest.
- Rough rule
- A 26 cm foot is usually EU 41, 27 cm about EU 42, and 28 cm EU 43 to 44.
- UK to EU shortcut
- Add roughly 33 to a UK size: UK 8 is about EU 42.

EU, US and UK: what the numbers mean
European (EU) sizing is the most common system in Saudi Arabia and the UAE. US sizing differs between men and women: a women's US size is about 1.5 larger than the men's size for the same foot. UK sizes run roughly half to one size below US men's.
Some brands also print a Japanese (JP) size, which is simply the foot length in centimetres. It is the easiest one to compare.
Quick women's conversions
| EU | US women | UK |
|---|---|---|
| 36 | 6 | 3.5 |
| 38 | 7.5 | 5 |
| 40 | 9 | 6.5 |
| 41 | 9.5 | 7 |
Sizing by foot length
If your foot measures 26 cm, you are usually EU 41; 27 cm is roughly EU 42; 28 cm is EU 43 to 44. A 25 cm foot usually lands on EU 39 or 40 depending on the brand.
For running shoes, if you're between two sizes, go up, because feet swell during longer runs.
Why brands disagree
Some sports brands run slightly narrow or small, and Italian luxury shoes often come up half a size small. Read buyers' fit comments on the product page, and size up if your feet are wide. Nike and Adidas are close to each other but can differ by half a size on some models.
Measuring mistakes to avoid
- Measuring in the morning, when feet are at their smallest.
- Measuring only one foot; one is often longer, so size for that one.
- Relying on an old shoe from a different brand.
- Ignoring the socks you'll wear with the shoe.
Half sizes and materials
If your length falls between two rows, choose the larger size for trainers and the smaller for open sandals. For formal leather shoes pick the exact size, since leather stretches a little with wear. Once a pair fits well, note the brand and size so you can reorder quickly.

How to measure your foot at home
Put a sheet of paper against a wall and stand on it with your heel touching the wall and your full weight on that foot. Mark the tip of your longest toe, then measure from the edge of the paper to the mark in centimetres. Repeat with the other foot and use the longer measurement.
Do it in the evening, when feet are at their largest after a day of walking, and wear the kind of socks you plan to use with the shoes. For running shoes, many specialists recommend leaving about a thumb's width between your longest toe and the front of the shoe.
Buying premium shoes online
At Level Shoes, many luxury labels follow Italian or French sizing that can run small. Because Level Shoes doesn't offer direct exchanges, check each brand's chart carefully; if you order the wrong size, you return it within 30 days and place a new order.
